First of all, the level of frustration Alice gave me in this trilogy was unhealthy. I swear I wanted to throw my kindle across the room every time she ruined the heroes’ plans for the billionth time. But I commend Marissa Lete for writing this complex villain, because if she wanted me to hate her—yet also feel for her?—boy did she succeed.

The book regained the structure it slightly lacked in the second book, and it gripped me from beginning to end. We finally get into the belly of the beast, meet new characters, and of course reach the end of the adventure.

Speaking of …

The ending had me emotional! The descriptive prose of Laura’s ability, that tie in scene from the first book, the hope and light and relief that washed over her and me as the reader, it was cinematic to the point I could almost hear the soundtrack. Simply *chef’s kiss.* I would totally watch this if it was made into a movie!

And Maverick … sweet protective boi, he and Laura were my favorite!

A very good book with a very good ending to the trilogy.

5/5 would recommend
(I was an ARC reader for this)
